One spelling...5 different sounds:
-ough =
dough
plough
cough
through
rough
??????????????????????
(the kids thought this was pretty fascinating)

True. No wonder it's hard for kids to learn how to sound words out. You want to teach them hard and fast rules that always apply, but there are always exceptions. Thanks for sharing.
